Who We Are

SkinCompass is a mobile application developed and operated as a sole-proprietorship based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We provide an ingredient analysis and price-comparison tool for cosmetic products.

What We Collect

We are committed to data minimization. Here is everything we collect:

• Anonymous Device ID — a random UUID generated on your device the first time you open the app. It is not linked to your Apple ID, name, email, or any personal identifier.
• Saved product IDs — when you save a product, we store the product identifier (brand + product name) associated with your anonymous Device ID.
• Search queries — product names or barcodes you search for are transmitted to our backend to retrieve results. We do not log or retain these queries beyond the duration of your request.

How We Use Your Data

• Your anonymous Device ID is used solely to associate your saved products across app sessions.
• Search queries are used in real time to retrieve ingredient and pricing data from our database and approved third-party sources. They are not stored after your response is returned.
• We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond delivering core app functionality.

Third-Party Services

To deliver pricing data, SkinCompass queries approved Canadian retailers' publicly available product pages and uses licensed data services. We do not share your Device ID or any personal information with these services. Queries are made server-side — your device communicates only with SkinCompass servers.

SkinCompass participates in the Amazon Associates Canada affiliate program. When you tap a price link to Amazon.ca, an affiliate tag is included in the URL. Amazon may use cookies or identifiers on their site per their own privacy policy. We receive no personal data from Amazon about your activity.

Our backend infrastructure is hosted on a Virtual Private Server. All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted via TLS.

Data Retention & Deletion

Saved product records associated with your anonymous Device ID are retained until you remove them within the app or uninstall the app. Because we have no way to identify you personally, we cannot fulfil deletion requests by name or email — your Device ID is the only identifier we hold.

To delete all your saved data, use the Clear Saved Items option within the app, or simply uninstall SkinCompass.

SkinCompass is operated from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This policy is written in compliance with:

• PIPEDA — Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada)
• PIPA (Alberta) — Personal Information Protection Act
• Apple App Store privacy nutrition label requirements

If you are located outside Canada, please be aware that any information transmitted to our servers is processed in Canada.

Children's Privacy

SkinCompass is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected in a new effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
